The 8580 Sound Interface Device by MOS Technology was the later revision of the mighty 6581 SID chip.  Unfortunately it resolved a few of the glitches which helped to characterise the original 6581 sound, namely the digitised audio output. 

During the nineties the 8580 SID chip could be found in most new Commodore C64C home computers.  It wasn't until around 1994 that it really found it's niche in the genre of techno and trance music.  I myself wrote hundreds of SID tunes with the 8580, and in some respects preferred it's crisp sounds to that of the duller 6581 SID chip (please don't hate me!).

So if you enjoy wearing things on your head, that to most people would simply confuse and bemuse, you will love the 8580 It's a SID thing baseball cap.
